I was visiting Sanibel Island Florida, J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge early in the morning. Suddenly I spotted this 16 foot long alligator - glad he/she didn't spot me first!
Coyote in Yosemite
This healthy coyote in the snow stood still several minutes for my wife who has a talent for animal whispering. Of course we kept a safe distance. Winter is a delightful and uncrowded time to visit Yosemite.
Black Bear with Brown Fur
Yep, Black Bears sometimes have brown coats. I patiently waited on a bridge at Taylor Creek Lake Tahoe, California, and was rewarded with this adult bear fishing for salmon.
The Arctic Wolf is a subspecies of the Gray Wolf. Such soft looking white fur!
Autumn is a busy mating season for elk in Yellowstone Park with the bulls concentrating on being studs. Don't get in their way and keep at least 25 yards away for your safety.
Black Bear Adolescent
Black Bears often do have brown fur. Climbing a tree to escape one is just not going to work!
Mule Deer Fawn
This sweet fawn was in our front yard in May near Grass Valley, California.
The best time to see Black Bears at Lake Tahoe is in the Fall when the salmon are spawning.
It is rare, but bobcats are occasionally spotted in the foothills of Sacramento.
Yellowstone National Park has numerous bison in fields and right along the roads. This golden colored adolescent was photographed in October with a healthy Fall coat.
Red Fox Adult
Best time to see foxes near our house in the Sierra Nevada Foothills is at sunrise in the Spring or Winter when they hunt longer to feed their young.
Red Fox Kits
These playful fox kits, also called pups or cubs, are ready for mischief! Early morning lighting on their fur is soft yet detailed.
Black Leopards are common in the equatorial rainfores of Malaya and the tropical rainforest on the slopes of some African mountains. Black panther is a color variant of any Panthera species. Black panthers in Asia and Africa are leopards (Panthera pardus). Black panthers in the Americas are black jaguars (Panthera onca)
We were blessed with the birth of this fawn and its twin in our yard. My photo was taken a few hours later so I would not upset the new mother. What long back legs!

Near our home in the Sierra Nevada Foothills in Northern California.
Grey Fox Pups
These fox pups, also called kits or cubs, came up to our backyard door in the Gold Country of Northern California. What a treat on a Spring morning!
